Currently, in the state of Vermont, pregnant women 18 and over enrolled in Dr. Dynausar receive Medicaid dental coverage up to the adult Medicaid cap of $495 (with the exception of very low-income pregnant women up to the age of 21 who qualify for Medicaid – that group receives comprehensive coverage.).
Under Medicaid law, the state can take the option to provide full dental coverage (no cap) for all pregnant women on Dr. Dynasaur.
Yet, we know that dental infections can be transmitted from the mother during childbirth or by a parent or caregiver through intimate contact.
We will request that the state of Vermont provide a guaranteed, comprehensive dental benefit to all pregnant women covered by Dr. Dynasaur.
* Update: In the 2012 legislative session, the Coalition successfully advocated to provide full dental coverage for all pregnant women on Dr. Dynasaur/Medicaid. Now, pregnant women have full dental coverage for the duration of their pregnancy and for 60 days postpartum.
